Fitness

I consider fitness not just a hobby, but as an integral activity of my daily life. It’s not about addiction as some people may think; it’s about relieving stress, spending time with yourself and for yourself, working toward a bigger goal, socializing with others, energizing, and most of all – feeling and ultimately looking good.

However, I strongly believe that everyone should find their own definition of fitness in terms of what sports they like, what is their goal (look good, general fitness, half or full marathon, triathlon etc…) and what works best for them. There is a real educational piece associated with doing sports and working out. It’s not really that straight forward to begin with and most of all, it takes time until you see visible results. So knowing what to do (the technique), doing it consistently, and getting the right nutrition are the core elements for success. That is the reason I attended two fitness courses so far (Anatomy and Physiology and Fitness Instructor) offered from Fitness Institute and one for DGI for the indoor cycling certificate.

Genetics plays a factor also. For example, I inherit a certain body type from my father; relatively tall, 184 cm,  with long arms and legs (not good for bodybuilding!) and ability to quickly deposit carbs in the lower abdominal area. Basically if I eat bad carbs they will deposit, due to my body inefficiency in utilizing them properly. Funny enough, this was proven by a DNA gene analyses they I did recently.

My road to fitness and sports, started when I arrived in Denmark, where cycling is used extensively for transportation purposes. I loved it. I got a racer bike, which I was using to cycle back and forth from school and work reaching a distance of 20-40 km a day. At the time I weighted approximately 100 kg, but dropped to 80 very quickly. This was the start to my passion and road to getting fit, enjoying sports and attending numerous cycling and later running events, including long distance bike rides in USA and Denmark and the Copenhagen marathon. It is my intention to have posts describing how to train for events like these, so please keep an eye on the main page.

Other topics that will be mentioned are:
VO2 max test; FTP max test; max heart rate test; nutrition; restitution; combination of strength and cardio, stretching and mobility etc.
