Boxing is certainly the most intense cardio workout I have experienced. However it’s not purely a cardio type workout as it includes strength as a major part of it. The reason why boxing attracts me is that it’s a great way to relieve stress. Hitting the bag as hard as you can turns out to be a therapeutic activity!
There is some technique involved in how to position and move the body for hitting, but most importantly, practice is the differentiation in terms of mastering the hits. Boxing training is also a full body workout. You need to have a strong chest, core and back, but also legs for stability and movement. I haven’t attended any specialized course on boxing, but I have attended various classes from various trainers in the gyms around Copenhagen (fitnessdk Nygårdsvej has been the best experience I have had). I have also instructed a few classes.
I won’t go into too much detail on boxing, but I am going to share few combinations you could try out in your own gyms:
-
- left/left – right
- left/left-right-left hook-right
- left/left–right – left hook – uppercut right
- left/left-right uppercut-left hook-right
- left/left–left hook – left upper cut body – right uppercut body – left – right
- left – right – left upper cut– right upper cut – left – right
